Star is the currency for the tasks. Stars can be earned by beating levels and they can't be purchased. Each beaten level will give 1 star.
Tasks show what can be built in that area. There are a certain number of tasks in every area. In order to complete a task, a certain number of stars will be used. Every area has unique tasks, and after completing all tasks in an area, players get an Area Chest as a reward. After claiming the Area Chest, the new area can be unlocked.
Area progress can be seen by tapping Tasks button on the Home Screen.
